SPRING RAIN

WHEN IT IS FINALLY RAIN NOT SNOW THAT FALLS FROM MAINE SKIES THE CREEK HAS FLOWING WATER. IT'S TIME TO HUNT FOR THE TINY SUNS BLOSSOMING AT THE EDGE OF THE STREAM.. AT FIRST I MISTAKE COLTSFOOT FOR AN EARLY DANDILION BUT WHEN I LOOK CAREFULLY, I CAN SEE THE REDISH SCALES ON THE FLOWER STEM. HOORAH! I'VE FOUND THIS TINY RELATIVE OF SUNFLOWERS.
HUNTING IN THE SAME AREA I SEE THE COLORFUL SWOLLEN HOOD THAT CURLS TO SHELTER A SINGLE THICK SEED SPIKE OF SKUNK CABBAGE.
MUD TIME IS ALSO MY CUE TO WALK AT DUSK BY THE BOGGY MEADOW WHERE A WEIRD LITTLE WOODCOCK IS COURTING WITH HIS ERIE WHISTLING ARIAL DISPLAY. BIRD CELEBRATION AFTER DARK. THAT'S A TREAT!
